Log Time Directly from the Project Schedule

Last Modified On: June 3, 2025

The Inspire Planner Time Tracker helps users easily view and log the time they spend on individual project tasks.

Inspire Planner allows users to log time from Salesforce Tasks using the Time Tracker or Stopwatch component, from the Time Tracker Tab, or from the Project Schedule, making it easy to track work as you complete tasks.

In this article, you’ll learn how to enter time quickly and accurately from within the Project Schedule, helping ensure up-to-date reporting and improved project visibility. This feature streamlines time entry by eliminating the need to switch between different views or modules.

    Please note:

You need editing permissions for the project to log time on tasks directly from the project schedule.

    Log Time for a Task

You can log time for a task directly from the project schedule by using the Time Tracker icon. By default, this icon is hidden. To make it visible, right-click any column header and select Time Tracker from the column picker.

The Time Tracker column displays to the right of the row numbers. You can drag and drop the column to move it to your preferred position.

To log time for a task, click on the Time Tracker icon to the left of the project task.

A Time Entry dialogue window will appear. To create a time entry, click on New Entry.

The Logged By field shows who the time entry is recorded for. By default, it will display your name. If you’re entering time on behalf of someone else, simply delete your name and search for the correct user. Keep in mind, the person must be part of the project team to be available for selection.

Next, enter the time spent on the task in hours and minutes. You can also change the work date and add any extra details, such as notes or a description of the work completed. Then, click on Save.

When you log time for a project task directly from the project schedule, Inspire Planner checks to see if there’s a Salesforce Task assigned to the person listed in the Logged By field (the time entry owner).

    • If a Salesforce Task exists, the time entry will be linked to that task.

    • If no Salesforce Task exists, the time entry will be linked directly to the project task instead.

This helps keep time entries properly connected to the right work items, depending on what’s already assigned.

    Time Entry Privacy Explained:

By default, time entries are private. This means:

    • You can only see the time entries that you have created.

    • If you log time on behalf of someone else, the time entry is created for them, but you won’t be able to see it.

If you need to view time entries created by others, your Salesforce System Administrator can change the sharing settings for the Time Entry object to give you access.
